Finish or NOT Friday 12.12.2025

My finish today is for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2025. One of the blocks I made every month was the 2025 Stash Buster Challenge block. My blocks are the big 16.5 inch unfinished and I made it in eight color ways. I didn't want a super big quilt nor did I want to make more blocks. I decided to split the blocks into two sets. One set is the warm side of the color wheel while the other set is the cool. I wanted the quilts to be approximately 40 inches square but my backing fabric was only 41 inches wide...so I hacked a little off each side to fit the backing. The quilts are approximately 36 x 41 inches and I will donate them to the local WIC program in the new year.

I was gifted yardage of questionable origins. It is spotted black and white cow print but after washing, it still had a lingering odor. So I got some cocoa brown Rit dye, washing soda (aka soda ash) and some snow from our deck. I placed the fabric on a wire rack, sprinkled the brown dye, then ice then the soda ash. I've never done this particular dying technique before so I'm interested to 'see' what happens!

WIP Wednesday 12.10.2025

 

Well, the weather got the better of the Howell MelonHeads and we cancelled the Christmas Party. It is better to be safe and warm today!

My driveway before plowing...notice that the road plow left a huge pile of very wet snow!

My husband is out of town at meetings so you know who! had to plow us out. Yup...me...and not a fan of snow <anymore> :) 

10, 175 steps before 11:00 am was the bright spot on this morning's adventure. It started to rain and now it is sleeting and is suppose to change back to snow. I think, perhaps, putting my garbage to the curb (ish) is in jeopardy! <grin>

On the sewing front, I was able to sew together the warm and cold colors of the 2025 Stash Buster Challenge blocks. I was going to 40 x 40 but my backing is only 41 inches wide so I will need to trim a little of the sides. <sigh>

Design Wall Monday 12.9.2025

 My design wall hasn't change in, like forever! so it really doesn't matter 'what this label is'! :)

I'll have to try and work on it after the preparations for the MelonHeads Christmas party it over (party date is tomorrow! Yay!)

SoScrappy Saturday 12.6.2025

Today is the first Saturday of December of 'finishing'. When I assembled my latest Happy Blocks quilt, I went ahead finished it. I have a few non-quilting obligations so I 'knew' my quilting time would be limited. Here it is and I have already donated it so this cutie is on it's way to it's 'forever home'.

WIP Wednesday 12.3.2025

I finished two more stockings for the local WIC program and I am happy I did...


Here are a portion of the WIC stockings turned in! We had a total of 100 stockings turned in today! Last year, our MelonHeads made 99 stockings so we beat our number by 1! Which was our goal! :)

I decided to make two more stockings to donate to the local WIC program. Tomorrow is the deadline to turn the stockings in and I already have a few prepped and ready to sew. This as exciting as the sewing is...

SoScrappy Saturday 11.29.2025

Today is the fifth Saturday of November of the month of assembly. Today is also the day for the November Table Scraps 2025 reveal.

Our color was maker's choice and the prompt is favorite book or movie. I have enjoyed reading since I was a child. We lived across the street from the public library and it was AIR CONDITIONED in the 1970's. Needless to say that I spent almost every day, every summer in the library! :) 

I also like a lot of movies. I definitely had a conundrum. Okay...don't hate/shame me but Hallmark Countdown to Christmas to the rescue. One of my favorite Hallmark Christmas movie is 'The Nine Lives of Christmas'. It stars a firefighter, vet student and cats. I'm not normally a cat person but this one just tickled my fancy. So I made a couple Meals on Wheels placemats with Christmas cats that were found on the free table...


I also decided to make a few placemats with Santa. After all, so many Santa movies and who doesn't like Santa?! The Santas were also sourced from the free table. :)

Finish or NOT Friday 11.28.2025

Earlier in the week, I did finish the red/green rope bowls! I am so happy! All my preparations for the guild Christmas Party on December 10, 2025 are ready. Now I am just waiting for the day to arrive and praying for NO SNOW! Here in Michigan this week, Bell Creek Quilts missed the Thanksgiving Day snow but we are forecasted to get 5-10 inches Saturday night through Sunday morning...

A few beauty shots of the red/green rope bowls. you might notice that the design wall is 'stuck'. :) I am amazed 'how' each rope bowl seems to take on a personality of it's own. :)

SoScrappy Saturday 11.22.2025

Today is the third Saturday in November of the month of assembly. I have gotten really off track with this year's RSC at the end. I'm going to blame the rope bowls as a major distraction. :)  Here, here or here, enough already! LOL

Earlier in the year, I did set my fish blocks together when I felt the quilt would be big enough to donate. I really like all the fish except for the dark purple that fades into the background. Perhaps this little fishie is well camouflaged!
